Another New School Year Begins

Posted by Dr. Dennis J. McCarthy on 9/6/2018

Even though many are sorry to see summer come to an end, the Western Area staff are excited that the students are back.

All necessary safety changes to the building have been completed. If you have not been to Western Area recently, you will immediately notice the new safety doors. If you do plan to visit, be sure to have your Driver's License as we are now using the Raptor System for entrance into the building. Additional security measures include the placement of yellow cement pillars in front of the building and strategically placed security cameras around the campus. Our most recent security feature is the addition of a Western Area Police Officer. Officer LaSalvia will patrol the hallways, parking lots, and classrooms during the day when students are in class.

We are adding some staff but are short a long-term substitute who must have teacher certification and an Industrial Maintenance Instructor who must have four years' experience in Industrial Maintenance. You do not need to be a teacher to apply for the Industrial Maintenance position; we will send you to IUP to get the needed certification. If you are interested in either position, please call me.

A variety of great evening Adult Education classes will be starting soon. If you are interested in Dancing, Cooking, Baking, HVAC or Auto Mechanics, Western Area is the place to be. For more information, go to the top of this page and click on Adult Education.

We look forward to a great, productive year and hope that you get a chance to visit the school and see the changes.

And remember, keep Western Area in mind if you are looking for employment.
