The End of Another Great Year

Posted by Dr. Dennis J. McCarthy on 5/29/2018

With the 2017-2018 school year coming to an end, I want to  thank our students for a wonderful year and congratulate our seniors for a job well done.

Our students can boast of participating in many community activities during the past year. Carpentry students built library boxes that were distributed throughout the area. Networking students worked with senior citizens at the Chartiers Library showing them how to use their eletronic devices. Cosmetology had a great time doing makeovers for senior citizens at a local nursing home. Culinary's "chefs in training" prepared meals for many funtions during the year, including the Washington County Adaptive Sports banquet and a catered event for Range Resources at Southpointe. Many students participated, and did very well, in regional and state competitions during the school year. The administration and instructors are very proud of every student in every program.

If you were unable to attend our seniors' Completers Ceremony on May 17th, you missed a great opportunity to see our students shine. Sadly, we are saying goodbye to 163 students. How time flies. It seems like yesterday that they were coming into the school for the first time. A special thanks is extended to the Canon-McMillan School District for allowing us to hold our ceremony in their high school gymnasium.

Many new projects will be in place as we start the new school year, with safety being our main focus. Please plan to visit Western Area to see our security doors, barriers in front of the building, upgraded cameras and a full-time school Police Officer.

I wish the families, students and instructors a safe and happy summer, and I look forward to seeing everyone back in August as we begin another exciting school year.

See you in the fall.
