General Qualifications
It is the policy of the Society that each member school establishes and maintains its own candidate membership standards and selection criteria.
NTHS members should be good, honest, responsible student-citizens who have made a personal commitment to excellence and who agree to uphold the NTHS Standards of Conduct found in the NTHS student candidate brochure and printed on the back of the student membership card.
The Society strongly encourages CTSO membership by all members and member schools and recommends the following:
- Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
- GPA for technical program or major 3.25 or higher
- One or more faculty and/or staff recommendations
- Active involvement in student government, CTSO, civic, or service organization(s)
Consideration is given to membership standards set for other campus honor organizations as NTHS standards are being developed. Changes in membership standards may be made based on local needs.
Members should understand fully that they are subject to dismissal if they do not maintain the standards of scholarship, attendance, leadership, service, and character that were used as a basis for their selection. Members will be evaluated each nine weeks period and any member who fails to maintain standards will be issued a written warning. The standard for scholarship is maintaining an “A” average in your shop area, and no grade of “D” or “F” in any academic class taken at WACTC or on any report card at your home school.
NTHS/CTSO Partnerships
The National Technical Honor Society has established strong, working partnerships with the following Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO’s) in a national effort to promote educational excellence and higher standards for career and technical education students. The purpose of these partnerships is to:
- Promote educational excellence in America
- Build a positive image for career and technical education
- Reward higher achievement among career and technical students
- Promote the benefits of student membership in a CTSO and NTHS.
- Increase scholarship opportunities for outstanding CTSO student members.
- Bring greater recognition to outstanding career and technical students and educators.
The Society strongly encourages schools and colleges to establish active CTSO initiatives for career and technical programs and students. Career and Technical Student Organizations are a valuable resource and a wise investment in human development and leadership.
