Course Objective:

Algebra II reviews the ideas and concepts taught in Algebra I and then begins a serious investigation of advanced concepts, including: quadratic equations, systems of equations, complex numbers, conic sections, exponential and logarithmic functions; matrices and determinants; probability and statistics; and trigonometric functions.

Course Description:

Students work in similar fashions to the Algebra I course.  The course begins with linear functions.  Students will solve advanced equations, model exponential functions algebraically and graphically including exponential growth and decay.  Next, students are introduced to quadratic equations, solved by factoring.  This course continues through higher order polynomial and trigonometric functions.  In addition, mathematical concepts are often applied using examples in the career and technical areas.

Course Topics:

Review of modeling and solving single linear functions and linear inequalities
Modeling and solving systems of two equations and inequalities
Graphical and algebraic representatives
Maximize and minimize functions
Arithmetic sequence, series and inverse functions
Exponential and logarithmic functions
Properties of exponential and logarithmic functions
Evaluate and solve exponential and logarithmic equations
Quadratics
Quadratic inequalities
Radicals
Power of i
Arithmetic operations with complex numbers
Polynomial functions
Absolute value, piecewise linear, step, rational, and logistic functions
Differentiate between relations / functions and inverse / identity functions
Period, amplitude, and frequency of periodic functions
Graphs, properties, and problems involving trigonometric functions
Measure angles in degrees and radians
Define and identify key components of conic sections
