

Mock Interview
The interview is the most important step in the job search process. To interview effectively, you should obtain information about the employer and the kind of position you want, and you need to be able to communicate your career interests and aspirations. Being able to answer questions with supportive detail and in a conversational manner is very important. Therefore, thorough preparation is essential.
All juniors are required to participate in a mock interview conducted by a member of the local business community.
Mock interviews will be scheduled for all juniors during April or May.
Each junior will be given a time and date for a scheduled mock interview. The interview will be held at Western Area CTC during regular school hours.
Appropriate dress is required – no jeans, tennis shoes, or unprofessional clothing.
Interviewers will assess you based on the following categories:
Prepared: knowledge of, and interest in the employer.
Personality: confidence, friendliness, enthusiasm, poise, assertiveness.
Career Goals: have specific areas of interest in mind.
Communication Skills: nonverbal skills, such as good posture, eye
contact, and tone or voice are as crucial as content of conversation.
Appearance: neat, professional dress; not overly flashy or made up.
Experience: awareness of own skills and how they relate to the world of work.
Common interview questions that you may be asked:
Tell me something about yourself.
What has been your major accomplishment?
What are your greatest strengths? Weaknesses?
Describe your ideal job.
Do you think your grades reflect your abilities accurately?
What are your thoughts about further education?
Where do you find yourself going, career-wise, in the next five years?
